Transgender Hair Transplant

At Timo Clinic, we can empathise with the troubles posed by your transition. As such, we can offer hair restoration surgery to help you with your journey. Our procedures are designed to help reshape and redesign your hairline to offer a more masculine or feminine look.

What is Transgender hair transplant surgery?

Put simply, hair transplant surgery is designed to reshape your hairline and offer hair growth to balding areas. Hair transplants are the best way for patients to gain a head of hair with a fuller and natural appearance.

Transgender hair transplants are designed with your gender reassignment surgery in mind. Whether you’re transitioning from male to female or female to male, we’re to offer the gender specific appearance you desire.

What Hair Restoration Surgery Should I Choose?

When it comes to hair transplants, the most popular method today is called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).  During an FUE procedure, individual hair follicles are excised from your scalp and implanted (one by one) into your desired area. Your existing hair is used to treat hair loss! Whilst the surgery is underway, you will be given local anesthesia; you shouldn’t feel anything more than a little bit of slight pressure!

One of the reasons FUE is used is because it is so fantastically versatile. Whether you’re looking to get a feminine curved hairline or grow facial hair, FUE is quick, produces minimal scarring, and takes hair individually, making it perfect for a transgender hair transplant.

How Much does a Hair Transplant Cost?

Hair transplant surgery is very much dependent upon a case by case basis. Different patients have different wishes, needs, and severity of balding.

Included in the cost is a free consultation session in which you will speak to a qualified hair transplant specialist. From here, your transplant method, location, and date, will be decided.

At Timo Clinic, we believe that anyone should be able to get a hair transplant, if they desire.

Why Get a Hair Transplant if You're Transgender?

There are two key reasons why you may be interesting in getting a hair transplant: first, to reshape the hairline in a fashion more suitable to a person’s gender and second, to halt signs of previous hair loss and pattern balding.

One of the biggest concerns facing the transgender community is gender dysphoria; the feeling that a person’s biological sex does not match gender identity. Hair transplant procedures can, potentially, reduce these feelings in patients.

Male to Female Transition

For many MTF patients, hair restoration surgery can be used to combat signs of balding that may have manifested pre-transition. One of the key hair procedures we can do is hairline lowering. This is where hair follicles are supplied into areas where hair has previously receded pre-transition.

The aim of this is to offer a more feminine appearance, in which hair new hair grows further down the head. This offers a permanent solution for those who have already experienced balding.

At Timo Clinic, we also offer PRP therapy, which is designed to bolster and thicken hair follicles that already exist on your scalp. If you are looking for natural looking hair, this may also be something to consider.

Female to Male Transition

For those undergoing FTM transition, we offer a number of solutions that tackle male pattern hair loss and the desire to achieve a more masculine look.

During the transition process, hormone therapy given to patients can cause symptoms of male pattern baldness. As increased testosterone is directly linked with male pattern hair loss, it is not surprising that FTM patients, post-transition, may experience signs of balding. This is caused by DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), which attaches itself to a hair follicles and causes hair to unalterably shed.

To combat this, transgender patients can be given a number of hair transplant options to combat this. Whether it’s FUE, or DHI, a hair transplant offers a truly long term solution. Why not has a look at our procedure pages?

Another procedure offered is a beard transplant. Thanks to technological advancements with FUE, in which hairs can be individually extracted, beard transplants can also be offered. If you’re looking for a desirable beard, then a beard transplant may be for you! To learn about the process, please consult our beard transplant page.

How many grafts are taken during a FUE procedure?

Typically anywhere between 2,000 and 6,000 hair follicles are extracted during an FUE hair transplant procedure. Naturally, this depends on the severity and area of baldness.

Will my hair transplant hurt?

No, your hair transplant should not hurt at all. During the procedure, you’ll be given local anaesthetic. You should’t feel anymore than a little pressure. One of the best thing about FUE hair transplantation surgery is the minimal scarring and reduced recovery time. As no strip of skin is being excised, you won’t feel any tightness post-surgery.

Will this help with feelings of gender dysphoria?

Potentially, yes. It is possible that getting a hair transplant may help in alleviating feelings of gender dysphoria in transgender patients. However, it is also important to mention that all patients are different.
